Penn State University Bird-Window Collisions

Ideation Process:
Bird strikes pose a significant threat to bird populations, often going unnoticed. Minor adjustments to windows can save many avian lives. This data visualization poster explores the impact of bird strikes on different species, highlighting the urgent need for action to protect our avian companions.
I wasn't satisfied with my initial ideas and realized I needed to explore further. Since this topic was new to me, I focused on the features of a feather to see how I could use them for data visualization. I studied them closely and brainstormed additional concepts.
During this process, I tried to use feathers to create shapes that convey information. Then I realized that when a bird dies, scattered feathers act as a signifier. This inspired my new idea. Professor Lim suggested showing the entire collisions as well, which I will implement.
